 TREES
SNOWBELL (Styrax americana) Small, deciduous, understory flowering tree growing to maximum of 12ft. Likes an acid soil, moist conditions. Cold hardy, but not salt tolerant. Excellent planted in moist Oak Hammock situation.

SWAMP DOGWOOD (Cornus foemina) Deciduous flowering tree growing to maximum of 20ft. Likes an acid soil, and will tolerant moist to flooded conditions. Bears clusters of small white flowers in the spring. Birds love the seeds. Good for Mesic hammock areas or banks of ponds or swales with over canopy of large trees.

SWEET GUM (Liquidamar styraciflua) Large deciduous shade tree growing to maximum of 60ft. Tolerates partial shade. Has beautiful fall color. Corky projections on branches. Conical in shape.

WALTER'S VIBURNUM (Viburnum obovatum) Small understory tree for partial shade. Maximum of 15ft. Evergreen with clusters of fragrant white flowers in spring.

RED MAPLE (Acer rubrum) Large deciduous, fast growing tree. Prefers acid soil in moist or flooded conditions. Grows in partial shade.

SWEET BAY MAGNOLIA (Magnolia virginiana) Large evergreen tree to maximum of 40ft. Prefers an acid soil in moist or flooded conditions. Beautiful silver color to underside of leaf. Fragrant small white flowers in spring. Fruits used by wildlife. Larval food for Giant Swallowtail butterfly. Grows in partial shade.

DAHOON HOLLY (Ilex cassine) Medium size evergreen tree to 35ft. Prefers acid soil and moist to flooded conditions. Will grow in dry areas but branch structure a little sparser. Red berries on the female. Grows in partial shade.

RED BAY (Persea borbonia) Large evergreen tree to 40-45ft. Prefers moist conditions, but will tolerate drier sites. Aromatic leaves which can be used in cooking. Butterfly attractor. Grows in partial shade.

SOUTHERN RED CEDAR (Juniperus silicicola) Large evergreen tree to 50 -60ft. Highly salt tolerant and will grow in most soil conditions. Excellent nesting cover and food source for birds. Referred to as the "Living Florida Christmas Tree". Excellent hedge and barrier plant. Grows in partial shade.
 SHRUBS
SAW PALMETTO (Serenoa repens) Maximum height 8ft. Extremely cold tolerant and salt tolerant. Prefers average to dry sites and is evergreen. Excellent ground cover beneath trees or palms. Very slow growing. Grows in partial to full shade.

SAW PALMETTO (Blue) (Serenoa repens)
Maximum height 8ft. Cold tolerant and salt tolerant. Prefers average to dry sites and is evergreen. Excellent ground cover beneath trees and palms. Unique bluish hue to leaves. Slow growing but not as slow as the green variety. Grows in partial to full shade.

COONTIE (Zamia pumila)
Grows to maximum height of 3-4ft over a long period of time. Florida's only native cycad. Prefers average to dry sites. This is an excellent evergreen ground cover for that natural Florida look. Grows in full sun to full shade.

BEAUTY BERRY (Callicarpa americana)
Maximum size of 6ft. Deciduous shrub with small pink flowers in spring and summer and purple berries in fall. Understory woodland shrub, which should be pruned following leaf drop thus making a more compact plant. Grows in full shade.

WILD COFFEE (Psychotria nervosa)
Grows to maximum of 4-5ft. Understory evergreen shrub with glossy leaves, small pinkish white flowers in spring with red berries in fall. Cold tender. Grows in full shade.

FIREBUSH (Hamelia patens)
Grows to maximum 12ft. Cold tender. Will freeze to ground but will revive. Wonderful color for shade. Coral tubular flowers with burnt red color leaves. Wildlife attractor. Grows in full shade.

CORAL BEAN (Erythrina herbacea)
Grows to 15ft. Deciduous shrub for dry woodland sites. Red tubular flowers before leaves in spring. Favorite of hummingbirds. Thorny. Grows in full shade.

YAHOON HOLLY (Ilex vomitoria)
Grows to maximum height of 20ft. Evergreen shrub or small tree with small white flowers in spring. Red berries in fall and winter. Excellent salt tolerance. Prefers average to dry sites. Grows in partial to full shade.

MARLBERRY (Ardisia escalloniodes)

MYRSINE (Rapanea punctata)
Grows to maximum of 10-15ft. Evergreen shrub for coastal sites. Prefers average to dry sites. Cold tender. Can be sheared. Grows in partial to full shade.

VIRGINIA WILLOW (Itea virginica)
Grows to maximum 6ft. Prefers acid, moist soil. Reddish foliage in fall. Excellent shrub for banks of ponds and swales with over canopy of trees. Grows in full shade.
