Hamelia Patens 'Compacta’
Compact Firebush is a dwarf cultivar of the Florida-native Firebush that grows to be 4’-6’ tall. These plants grow best in full sun to partial shade and average, well-drained soil. With its red and green leaves and red to orange flowers, Compact Firebush can be used as part of a hedge or as a specimen plant. The flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, particularly the Zebra Longwing, which often feed on the nectar and pollen of Compact Firebush flowers. The flowers are followed up by small, dark berries that have a long history of medicinal use, but can also be used to make syrups and wine.
