Dodonaea viscosa
Dwarf Varnish Leaf is a fast-growing evergreen shrub that features many upright stems, densely clothed in shiny, narrow green leaves. The leaves are covered with a sticky resin that gives them a distinctive varnished appearance and helps the plant achieve exceptional drought tolerance. This species produces small, inconspicuous yellow flowers followed by striking three-winged papery seed capsules that are highly ornamental. We carry a lower-growing variety that tends to stay in the 6ft range but could possibly get taller and can be trimmed to stay lower. It's extremely hardy and adaptable to various soil types, making it excellent for use as a specimen plant, dense hedge, or evergreen screen in zones 9-11.
