Hamelia patens
Firebush is a native, evergreen, 12’, prunable, shrub. It does best in dry to moist (well-drained) soils, sun/part shade, and is very fast-growing. With year-round, showy flowers that attract hummingbirds and butterflies, and berries that serve as a food source for song birds, Firebush makes a lovely addition to many Florida landscapes, especially pollinator and hummingbird gardens. In addition to its ecological benefits, the fruit is edible and has a long history of medicinal and industrial uses. Ripe fruit is black, edible raw and can be made into a syrup or wine!
