  • Native, long-lived perennial, dormant in winter, 3ft

  • Sun to partial sun, very wet soil to submerged up to 2ft underwater, not salt tolerant

  • Great addition to wetland edge, stream bed, pond, or swale

  • Showy purple flower spikes in summer and seeds in fall, interesting foliage, attracts pollinators

  • Seeds feed birds and edible for people too, raw or cooked
